Info on listing with search engines:
Search engines are how we find what we are looking for on the Internet. They are populated via submissions and result in large databases or indexes, that Web surfers query to find Web sites. When you use a search engine and type in a keyword, you are initiating a database query. The search engine then calls up a list of sites that match the query.
Most engines use a scoring or "probable relevance" method to call up the sites. There are methods of increasing your ranking in the search engines. They are not listed alphabetically, or by date submitted, each search engine uses different criteria for rating your site. Even after you have appeared in the first 10 sites listed, you could easily be bumped to number 345 or lower on the next round of data upgrades. Some engines upgrade daily and others weekly. If you are counting on your site to draw a large audience it is an absolute necessity to rank high in the search engine results. Monitoring this and resubmitting your pages to ensure your continued high profile presence is a time consuming but necessary process. You can have regular resubmission’s performed to help keep your site ranking in a good position on the search engines for a monthly fee. And there are a lot more than 10 search engines!
